THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

In our world there are lights and shadows.  On the one hand there are signs of positive growth, understanding, humanitarian achievements; On the other hand , there are negative and inhuman realities that persist: injustices, wars, violence, terrorism, refugees ... all signs that humanity needs to grow more in order to be more fraternal, more just according to the hearts of people who want to live in peace and worthily.

Isaiah today gives us a message of hope: “The people who walked in darkness saw a great light, and those who lived in darkness also, joy grew”.    Isaiah tells us of a time of hope.

Jesus begins to preach and his message is also of hope: The Kingdom of God is near. That Kingdom of God,  that is justice, peace, presence of God in our midst.

The Word of God reinforces our hope, gives us reason for optimism, help us to believe that  a better world, more fraternal, more just, more according to the desire of the human heart and the plans of God our Father,  is still possible.

Jesus tells us that there is a condition that allows the Kingdom of God to grow in us and in the world: “REPENT because the Kingdom of God is near”. The condition for the Kingdom to grow in us is repentance, change of life, conversion. In the teachings and example of Jesus we have a new model of person and of world; the values He invites us to follow are love, surrender, giving life for others, service; all as a result of the love of God and of the Brothers. How different the world, our lives and our relationships would  be if we identified ourselves with the values and feelings of Jesus.

The Good news, the Kingdom of God, the example and proposals of Jesus are the invitation they  live a new and full life as  Jesus does: his proposals continue through the disciples whom he decided to call and  to make them apostles. They are  disciples as they continue the effort  to identify themselves with Him;  as apostles they are called to proclaim the Good News that they have received from Jesus; they  have experienced a new and a good lives and a new  world in which they could live.

Today our hope is strengthened, our desire for a better  person and a better world increases; In Jesus we have an offer and an answer:  it is not enough to listen, it is necessary to CHANGE, to grow in a concrete and generous  love so that the Kingdom of God gets closer,  grows and  makes our lives more divine. It depends on us: are we willing to follow this path?
