THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (FEAST OF ST. CONFORTI)

The Gospel of today is an invitation to honesty and coherence between our faith and our concrete and daily life. Jesus called the Scribes and Pharisees hypocrites, because they didn´t practise what they preached. We are also hypocrites because we do not practice what we believe. But each time we come to celebrate the Eucharist we are called by God to a life of truth and goodness.

The thoughts of Jesus are very different from ours; for Him the most important thing is love, mercy, service, compassion; For us the important things are honour, wealth, power and ourselves.  I think we are aware of this difference. I also think that we would like to improve, to follow Jesus with more fidelity, but it is not easy, our efforts are not enough.

To be honest in our journey of faith, the most important thing is our identification and union-communion with Christ and his love. Jesus said very clearly:” Cut off from me you can do nothing” (Jn.15,5). The important thing in our Christian life is, little by little, to grow in Christ, to identify ourselves with him, to let the Spirit work in our hearts. The model and goal of spiritual growth is the Man Jesus. He is the perfect human response to God and the actualization of all moral perfection. Jesus is the perfect expression of the relationship with God and our brothers and Sisters.         The spiritual growth is the work of the Spirit of Christ in us.

Are we willing to let ourselves be changed, to let ourselves be modelled according to the identity of Christ? In this way our faith and our actions will be more coherent. Let us continue traveling the path of love that takes us from ourselves to Christ

As Xaverian, let me remember our Founder, St. Guido Maria Conforti; today is his liturgical feast. Man passionate for Christ and for the world,  he wanted everyone to know the love of God and founded our missionary family.

Conforti used to repeat with conviction these words of Jesus: “I am the way, the truth and the life; anyone who follows me does not walk in darkness..”. These words should persuade us of our duty to keep our eyes fixed on Him as the incomparable model we should imitate…
