Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Parish Mongo Bendugu usually celebrates its parish feast on February 21. This year it was celebrated on Sunday, February 24, for the sake of convenience.

Many people kindly responded to the invitation of the parish to join Mongo Christian community on this thanksgiving celebration: Father Louis Birabaluge from Kissy community in charge of Rokel chapel and lecturer in Saint Paul Major Seminary in Freetown; Fr. François Noah and Fr. Alejandro Roman along with them the youth from the Holy Martyrs of Uganda Parish, Kabala.

Taking advantage of this event, some activities were planned along the week up to Sunday. On Friday late in the morning, Fr. Louie blessed the new building of Saint George Secondary School with the cutting of the ribbon in the presence of the council chairman of Fabala district, the regent chief of Mongo chiefdom and all the stake holders of this place. A friendly football match of the youth from the Holy Martyrs of Uganda, Kabala Parish and the youth from Mongo took place in the afternoon. In the evening of this same day, Mongo youth organized a mini concert in the parish hall to entertain their fellow youth from Kabala.  A solemn Mass on Sunday the 24th presided by Fr. Louie concluded all the activities of this thanksgiving celebration.

This celebration aimed at putting the Mongo Christian community in the mood of joy and feast since Christians are a tiny minority in this particular area of the country. It aimed also at rekindling the Christian faith and the commitment to the church from some of this parish. Involving the youth in parish activities and strengthening the collaborative ministry mostly with parishes closer to Mongo was also the aim of this celebration.
