HOLY FAMILY SUNDAY
We are celebrating with joy the presence of Jesus among us. He dwells in our midst to show us the love that God has for everybody and to teach us, with his life, a new way of being a person and to live in communion with God and with the others, trying to give the best of ourselves in order to grow in the fullness of life and to cooperate to build a better world, in accordance with the thought of God.
Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family, a community of people who live in harmony, Holy Family that is presented to us as an example of life where the love of God and their effects on daily life is experienced. It is not easy to live in a family; the situation of the family in the world today is encountering many difficulties; living in love and communion has become a difficult task; but we must face these difficulties with the hope that Jesus and the Holy Family offers to us: it is possible to live together in love, hope and joy.
Everything depends on love: love is the greatest need of every human being. Life is essentially love; it is the personal, authentic project, the only one who can make people happy; love is real when it is given and shared in solidarity, communion, brotherhood, friendship, acceptance and respect for the others.
If love dies, everything is lost, then the family and the house becomes, for all its members, husband and wife, parents and children, no more than a hotel, a bedroom or a prison. Without love nobody can build the family as it should be: family is a human space of encounter and dialogue, a communion of life, a place of personal fulfillment and an occasion of growth for the spouses and the children.
The great sacrament of the Christian family is, together with the sacrament of marriage, the Eucharist which we welcome, since it is the table where the bread for the family is prepared for us by our common Father, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the God of our fathers in faith and in love,
Lord, that the mutual love of spouses and parents and children may grow ever more. Consolidate the union of those who are called to marriage and to family life, and make our homes able to reflect faithfully the domestic virtues of the Family of Nazareth.
