Today we celebrate the Holy Family Feast Day. The reading from the Gospel, still during the Christmas celebration, leads us to reflect upon the life of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Their life was far from being of a luxurious style. They were just a simple family from the village of Nazareth. Their daily life was the same as the one of an ordinary family in their village at that time. There was nothing special about them. The only thing that made that family 'holy' was the presence of Jesus among them.
I remember when I was a child, that several times, my father asked us to pray together before we went to sleep. Every Saturday or Sunday, my Mom also never forgot to remind me to go to the church. And every month, after my parents received their salaries, may father would call us to pray together over the money that we had just received, hoping that God would bless that money so that it was enough to cover our needs for the coming month.
Of course, since I was a child, I could not understand why my parents did those things. But later on, as I grew up, I realized what my parents really wanted. They wanted to make my brother and myself understand that we should remember God in everything we do in our life. They wanted God to stay in the middle of our family, to make our family just like the Holy Family of Nazareth.
Family is a miniature of the Church. So, in the Feast Day of Holy Family, let us ask God through the Holy Spirit that we are able to invite Jesus to come into our family, our community. We believe that if we do that, our family will become another 'Holy Family'. We believe that God call every family to become holy in their daily life in this world. May God bless us all.
