In this 4th Sunday of Easter, the readings lead us to become more aware that we only find salvation in and through Jesus. “Salvation is to be found through him alone; in all the world there is no one else whom God has given who can save us." (Act. 4: 12). In the gospel of John, Jesus is described as a Good Shepherd. We are  God’s flock. And how can this flock  be safe in the wilderness? How can this flock survive? It all depends on who is their sheperd.

We are living in this world just like a flock in the wilderness. We can go any direction we want. We can follow anyone who attracts us. But, in this world where anything and anyone can offer different kinds of ‘salvation’, who can truly lead us along the right path?
Since Jesus said that he is the one who knows his flock and his flock also know him, we can be sure that he is not a ‘hired shepherd’ – who will run away, abandon his sheep when danger is approaching. All we need is to listen to his voice. We are the flock that belongs to God. And through our baptism, we received the Holy Spirit who helps us recognise His Voice in our life.

So, in this coming week, let us humbly ask  the Holy Spirit to guide us and to help us to follow the voice of our shepherd, Jesus Christ.  Let Him be the one who leads us and keeps us safe in our daily life.
