THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS

The human being since he has the gift of reason and intelligence has the illusion to be able to control everything by technique and gadgets. The problem appears when people lose the control. For example, the captain of a ship when in the middle of a storm, may panic and hide (this sounds most unlikely!) from the crew until the storm calms down.

The main point in this Sunday's  Gospel is about the courage and the faith of the disciples. The disciples seem to be brave with Jesus in the boat, but at the moment of the storm the disciples lose control of the boat and begin to doubt about their own safety, Jesus observes that courage is not enough if they do not have faith. Jesus shows his authority and power, and who He is by the way he speaks.
Jesus had already shown and proved to his disciples who He was, but the disciples had not  understood the words and the signs (miracles) he had spoken and performed. Parables and signs were beyond their comprehension and not sufficient for them to believe who he really was. If they had understood, they would not have been afraid of the storm or anything else

The bible  shows that the voice and the authority of God is there since the creation of the world, his voice is creative; his voice is present from the beginning, and his voice shows  authority and control over all natural phenomena, and he is the only Lord of the universe. Because He is a creative voice, " the Word said: let there be light, and there was  light” (Gen 1: 3, 6, 9…); in the New Testament we read “in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (Jn 1,1). But the disciples are amazed and say "who can this be? Even the  wind and the sea obey him."
The human being will always experience in his life storms or problems that will put his faith and courage to the test. Jesus showed his disciples that if they have faith and trust in him, they will even be able to sleep in the middle of a storm. It is clear that living with Him is living in peace and tranquility even in the middle of a storm. Have a nice Sunday.
