TRINITY SUNDAY Year C: 12th June, 2022.
Pope Francis has often affirmed that the Church of the third millennium will be a Synodal church. This word ‘synod’ is becoming familiar to the Christians now, and also its meaning, which is ‘to walk together’. Some can say: ‘well, this is what we have always being doing’, not understanding however the urgent call of the Pope to a real change, a long journey together and at the school of the Holy Spirit. The goal of the Synod is not to produce a new document (paper is easy to print), but a living synodal church.
Indeed, we are called to become what we are: "a people made one with the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." (St. Cyprian) (LG,1:4). A church, then, reflection (image and likeness) of the Holy Trinity which we celebrate today!
The world today seems set out to continue on the way it started this third millennium as a poet reminds us:
“Those planes against the proud towers;
that flight of human lives plunging against other lives.
The mind waver, the heart overwhelmed and oppressed.
times are in ready, or maybe they are already here,
times in which it will be required
of human beings to be ‘other’
from what we have been. How?
How?
Here we have the Synod on synodality, here we have the Trinity as an alternative.
And a prayer.
O God, Trinity of love,
from the profound communion of your divine life,
pour out upon us a torrent of fraternal love.
Grant us the love reflected in the actions of Jesus,
in his family of Nazareth,
and in the early Christian community.
Grant that we Christians may live the Gospel,
discovering Christ in each human being,
recognizing him crucified
in the sufferings of the abandoned
and forgotten of our world,
and risen in each brother or sister
who makes a new start.
Come, Holy Spirit, show us your beauty,
reflected in all the peoples of the earth,
so that we may discover anew
that all are important and all are necessary,
different faces of the one humanity
that God so loves. Amen. (Fratelli Tutti, n.287)
