First Sunday of Lent A - Makeni 22 February 2026
Readings: Genesis 2:7-9. 3:1-7. Romans 5: 12-19. Matthew 4:1-11
Yes, Jesus succeeds always. We do not always succeed.
Yet following Jesus examples of determination, great love for God, and accountability; we can be successful again and again. If we love God more than anything else, Satan will know that he cannot make us listen to him. We want to listen to Lady Wisdom rather than mister stupidity. We want to promote friendship rather than jealousy, patriotism rather than betrayal, service rather than laziness!
When one listens to Satan rather than to the Holy Spirit, he or she calls Satan by a fake name:
Practicality!
Stones are meant to build roads and houses not to be eaten.
Satan is the father of lies and perpetual confusions.
Spiritual power is for altruism not for individualism!
Jesus teaches us honesty, humility and fraternity:
No prestige for himself but service for humanity!
We are sure that Satan’s malice will not prevail on the Holy Spirit.
No matter how needy you may be, you must not steal public funds.
Indeed, those who steal public funds are already scandalously rich.
A child of God deserves to be trusted in any kind of challenge.
We must not misuse the power we have as political or religious leaders.
In due time, Jesus multiplied bread for the hungry, again and again!
Do not worship Satan.
Powerful nations kill and steal African resources in the name of globalization!
They do not respect human dignity in Africa.
The missiles they have make them look down on impoverished nations.
