SAMUEL N. ALLIEU
I am Samuel Nyakeh Allieu, a Sierra Leonean Xaverian student. I am currently on my philosophy studies at the Saint Paul's Major Seminary, Regent, Freetown, Sierra Leone. I am the first son of my parents, the first child to my Mother and the fourth to my Father who has already passed away. In my life, I have always wished to be just a simple person who can take care and support the poor, the outcast, the widows and the disable in society. Since I became a Christian, I realized that if one is to be wealthy and happy, that person is to keep treasure for himself in heaven and not in this passing world.
I came to know about the Xaverian missionaries when I was invited for a youth spiritual retreat in 2016. It was held in the Xaverian formation house at Kissy, Freetown. During the retreat I was told about the charism of the Xaverian congregation, which is to proclaim the Gospel to the whole world, especially to those who do not know Christ. In so doing, Xaverians believe that mankind will be united in a single family of love, joy, peace, happiness… From that time, the xaverian charism seemed to me a good way to practice what I was longing for. Since I wanted to help bring peace to the world in my own little way and especially making the poor, the outcast in society, the orphans, the widows and the disable to feel that they are part of the human race, as they are of the image and likeness of God our Father, who wants us to be happy with Him forever.
From my findings about the Xaverian congregation as a religious congregation, I see that it is a congregation that is working to bring peace to world by shearing the Good news to all mankind not despite their status in the society. They preach the Gospel to all people. Now I am living in a xaverian community. Since I entered the Xaverian formation house, I have had wonderful experiences, such as living together with my brother seminarians and fathers who are in charge of the formations house. We live as a family. I am pleased encountering Christ daily in the Blessed Sacrament and also in the saint Edward’s catholic community/Rokel where I am assigned to help to assist the Priest in charge.
Concretely, at Rokel, I am in charge of animating the Altar Servers, teaching catechism classes to catechumens, assisting the choristers and taking the Blessed Sacrament to the sick and aged people of the Church community. I wish to be part of the Xaverian family to continue to do in my own little way what I can to bring people closer to God and to let them know that there is someone who loves them and cares for them; meaning God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I know for sure that by myself alone I can do anything, but like the words of Barack Obama "Together we can", I pray that as I have started this journey, God in His goodness will give me the strength to continue the mission that His Son started and which is being carried out by all the xaverian missionaries in the World.
