The Heartbeat of our Mission

On the early evening of October 17th, here in Kabala – Holy Martyrs of Uganda Parish, we organized a Prayer Vigil for the World Mission Sunday.

The youth and the children`s groups in the parish hosted the celebration. The purpose of the vigil was to gather together among us and pray for the evangelization of peoples, pray for the missionaries and pray for  vocations. And it was also a spiritual activity in joining the whole church in celebrating Mission Sunday. It was a night of prayer and songs.

We began praying the Missionaary Rosary. Each mystery was led by group that represented each of the five continents with the corresponding missionary rosary colors. After the Rosary, we presented the mission symbols. We chose the Cross, the globe, the Bible and the icon of St. Francis Xavier. They were carried in procession, accompanied by the song of the Ave Maria. Then, we joined in the universal prayers for the evangelization, for the missionaries, for the vocations, for the bishops and the pope. On that night the heart of the vigil was the playing of the Mission Song, which were interpreted and danced by the Altar Girls. And we ended up with the kissing of the Cross and the incensing.

The youth and the children were actively participating. They were in good numbers, though not many adults  came. They were happy and grateful for the celebration. The Prayer Vigil was done briefly and in a simple way.

Text of the Mission Song;

 There`s a call going out across the land and every nation

A call to all who swear allegiance to the cross of Christ

A call to true humility, to live our life responsibly

To deepen our devotion to the cross at any price

Let us then be somber holding only in the Spirit

To various strangers in a hostile foreign land

The messages were proclaiming were repentance and forgiveness

The offer of salivation to the dying race of men

Chorus;

To love the Lord our God is the heartbeat of our mission

The strength from which our service overflows

All across the streets, all around the world

The mission still the same

Proclaim and live the truth in Jesus name

As the candle is consumed by the passion of the flame

Spilling light unsparingly throughout the darkened room

Let us burn to know him deeper than as service flaming bright

Will radiate his passion and bless with holy light
