Last Thursday, 14 April 2016, I had the privilege to concelebrate the Holy Mass with Pope Francis in Santa Marta Chapel in the Vatican. We were a group of Bishops, priests and laymen , former seminary classmates in the 50's.
To concelebrate with pope Francis was an experience of true spiritual joy. I was touched by the total simplicity of the Pope, by his spirit of prayer, the clarity of his word and his cordiality with everybody. I recalled God's theophany to prophet Elijah on mount Horeb. God did not manifest himself with the great and noisy atmospheric phenomena such as impetuous wind, fire and earthquake, but "in the whisper of a light breeze" (1 Kings 19,12). The sweet breeze of the Spirit is blowing over the Vatican hill inhabited by pope Francis.
A spontaneous Thank You comes up: "Thank you, Pope Francis, because you are there. Thank you because you are the sweet and joyful guide of the christian people. Thank you, because after the example of the Good Shepherd, you lead mankind to find the way of peace, of justice and of love".
After the Holy Mass, I introduced myself as a Xaverian missionary Bishop, Bishop emeritus of Makeni in Sierra Leone. When he shook my hands, I said to him: "Thank you, Holy Father, for the joy of the Gospel that you are spreading to the whole world".
