This year`s National Celebration for the World Day of Consecrated Life was held in the St. Paul`s Cathedral - Diocese of Kenema. There were about 68 Religious Priests, Brothers, Sisters and Lay Consecrated present and around 18 Religious Congregations. The majority came from Kenema and Bo. Less from Freetown and Makeni because of the distance.
The Program began with the Report of the Major Religious Superiors in Sierra Leone by Brother Michael of the St. John of God. It was followed by the Safeguarding of Minors and Vulnerable Adults – Bro. Joseph Gomeh cfc – Christian Brothers. Hence, it is a serious topic, there were good number of interactions and sharing.
Before the lunch, was the Celebration of the Holy Mass presided over by Bishop Henry Aruna. Bishop Aruna appreciated and was happy of the said gathering. He expressed his joy as he grew up with the Religious people through the presence of the Spiritan Fathers. The Vicar General Fr. Komasi was also joining the Mass.
Fr. Michael Lamboi – Chancellor of Kenema, was invited to give the Update on the Process of Synodality in Sierra Leone. He basically shared the summary from the national consultation report. The update on the Synodal process is now moving towards the Continental Phase. For the Continent of Africa it will be held this coming March in Addis Ababa. Many questions, concerns and intervention arose from the assembly.
The celebration ended with the getting together lunch. The schedule was loaded with topics and the time was short. Other long discussions and concerns were cut off.
The interaction and the encounter of the Religious in Sierra Leone from respective four Dioceses and from various Religious Congregation were very heartening.
The next year national celebration-gathering for Consecrated Life will be in hosted by the Diocese of Makeni.
