The Gospel story tells us about the Transfiguration of Jesus. It also gives us a hint about the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord. In this way Mark, with the Transfiguration, presents to us with great elegance the mystery of Jesus.

The first reading  presents to us the sacrifice of Abraham; because of this test, St Paul calls Abraham "our father in faith" (Heb 11:17).  The second reading calls to mind that Jesus  died and  was resurrected and sits at the right hand of God.

The gospel of this second Sunday of Lent  narrates that Jesus chose three of his disciples to climb the hill with him. They are the chosen to witness something wonderful, but also pass through a test. Just as Abraham,  the three chosen disciples, Peter, James and John are tested in their faith. Those chosen by God are tested in their faith. The trials may be simple or more often difficult. They will be about putting God and his word at the centre of our life decisions. 

The three disciples on the hill have the opportunity to see the Transfiguration of Jesus, to hear the voice of God the Father, and  experience also the companionship of Moses and Elijah. The disciples experience  great fear, a fear that is part of their own transfiguration in Christ. This experience reminds the disciples that the future life is in heaven. With the Transfiguration Jesus tells his disciples that in difficult times they should cherish in their hearts this moment  they are living. Have a nice Sunday.
